How the luck score works
Every digit in Chinese has a sound, and many sounds match lucky or unlucky words. Our engine does four things:
- Finds hidden phrases first, longest match wins: 5201314 beats 520 + 1314, and 748 is caught before its single digits.
- Weighs the remaining digits: 8 (发) +, 6 and 9 +, 2 and 3 slightly +, 4 (死) strongly −.
- Rewards patterns: mirrors like 270·270 (好事成双), solid runs (8888), rising sequences (步步高升) and lucky endings.
- Switches dialect: in Cantonese, 5 means "not", so 58 means "won't prosper" and 54 means "won't die". 7 also carries a vulgar slang sound.
Scores are for cultural entertainment and education, not financial, legal or spiritual advice. Families, regions and dialects differ. When it really matters, ask a human expert.
Tips by number type
📱 Phone numbers
The last 4 digits carry the most weight. 8888, 1688, 5188 and 6688 are premium; avoid 4, 14, 44 and 748 endings.
🚗 Car plates
Shorter is better. 8, 18, 28 and 88 are coveted, which is why HK plate auctions reach millions.
🏷️ Prices
Swap .99 endings for 8s: $88, $168, $888. Never price a gift at 250. Try the Lucky Price Finder.
🏢 Addresses & floors
Many buildings skip floors 4, 13, 14 and 24. Units ending in 8 often sell at a premium to Chinese buyers.
